Red Cedar Cottage Weekend Getaway

Last month I had the spontaneous opportunity to fly out to Wisconsin for a retreat with some amazing women. We were all brought together through our independent wellness and fitness journey. One thing about me is that I am a planner so when I was invited only a month out I was slightly hesitant. However, I have been working on taking advantage of oprotunities as I can. To many it may sound a bit crazy to fly from Alaska to Wisconsin for only a weekend. However, this year I am being intentional about living out my core values of creativity, community, and adventure. This trip…well it included all three. So after checking my milage account figured why not?

The experience did not disappoint. After a short road trip we arrived at the most gorgeous cabin I have ever experienced. A little background “cabins” in Alaska are more like cabins in the woods with sleeping platforms and a kerosine stove. Yes, that means no electricity or indoor plumbing haha. So when I say it was nice it was fanominal.

Cedar Cottage Cabin in Birchwood, Wisconsin is a hidden gem, perfect for a weekend getaway. Located on the serene Red Cedar Lake, this cozy cabin offers breathtaking views of the surrounding woods and water.

The cabin itself is a charming blend of rustic and modern, with plenty of natural light, gold accents, and updated amenities. Many of the textiles, wallpaper, and accents were furnished from the store of the owner (@shopadourn). The open floor plan includes a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living area with a stone fireplace, and a dining area that seats up to six.

One of the highlights of the Cedar Cottage Cabin is its outdoor space. The cabin sits on a spacious lot with a large deck overlooking the lake, perfect for enjoying morning coffee or an evening cocktail. There is also a fire pit area for cozy bonfires and s'mores under the stars. Since we were there during the winter we spent most of our time at the cabin inside enjoying the fireplace, extremely comfortable couches/ chairs in the downstairs sunroom overlooking the lake and the upstairs living room.

Overall, Cedar Cottage Cabin is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to unwind and reconnect with nature. As our group of ladies will attest it is the perfect retreat for couples, families, and small groups. We especially want to come back and experience what the area has to offer in the summer months!

Was flying more than halfway around the country for the weekend kind of a crazy idea… maybe? Do I regret it? Aboslutly not! I know that I will not be able to just take off whenever. However, that does not mean that with a little planning and careful consideration you can not take advantage of opportunities when they arrive.

For me 2023 is the year of living more inline with my core values and beliefs. And I’ll let you in a little secret…. I have never been this content and at peace with my life. That said I also want to let you know that a lot of personal work and prayer has taken place to bring me to this point. And boy is there still a ways to go. Not everyday is a good day but the more inline my life is with what I value to easier it is to have the slightly better days.
